The Guide That Makes Setting up Parental Controls on Your Devices Easy

60% of teenagers have created a social media profile without their parents even knowing. Because of this, caring parents may want to consider setting up parental controls.

Parental controls can be a great way to ensure that your child is safe online and not viewing or doing anything they’re not supposed to.

This can include blocking websites, monitoring browsing websites, or restricting access to certain apps. Keep reading to learn how to do it.

Set Up Apple

If you want to set this up on an Apple Device, you’ll first need to go to settings and then find the screen time option. Next, hit continue and asset whether this is your device or a child’s device.

Now, you’ll have to make a decision. If you’re the parent of the device and want to make sure another family member doesn’t change your settings, you can create a passcode and then confirm it. When you do this, you may be asked for your Apple ID as well.

However, if you’re setting up Screen Time on your child’s device, you’ll want to follow prompts to get a parent passcode. Again, you’ll have to confirm it and enter your Apple ID.

After you’ve set up a password, go to the content and privacy restrictions section. It may ask you for your password again in order for you to make sure your child can’t turn them off.

There are different options here that you can customize. You can decide whether or not to restrict Facetime, sharing pictures and videos, downloading new apps, having a browser, and so much more.

You can even restrict how much screen time they can have while on the device.

Set Up Microsoft

If you have a Microsoft device, then you’ll find that setting it up on Windows 10 is actually very easy. You’ll need to create a family user account on your device, and this will limit the user’s abilities.

To do the setup process, you’ll need to have one parent Microsoft account and then create an individual Microsoft Account for each child. You’ll also need your child’s email account if they already have their own account.

First, start by setting up the child’s account. You need to go to the open Windows setting and then go to the Accounts section.

From there, click the Family and Other People option from the left-hand menu. Then, you’ll need to add a family member and be able to add a child to it.

The add a child should be the option that is selected by default. Enter the child’s email address if you have it. If your child doesn’t have an email address, you can click the option that says you don’t have an address.

Then, you’ll need to sign in to Microsoft with your username and password. This will prevent unauthorized people from being able to create controls for your child if you leave your system open.

Once you sign in to your account, you can set up their access to the Windows Store, Xbox Live, and other Microsoft sites. You’ll also control if they can connect to third-party apps.

When you set up all of that, you’ll save your settings.

Google Play

You’ll also be able to set up different controls on Google Play as well. You can do this on Android devices and choose games that are based on maturity level.

However, keep in mind that these controls won’t prevent restricted content through links or searches. You’ll need to manage that with your other account.

Parental controls on Android will only apply to whatever device you add them to, so this is different than the Microsoft account controls.

If you have many people using one device, you can set up different accounts for each person. The person who sets up those profiles will need a different PIN to manage those accounts.

You’ll need to open the Google Play app and then tap on the profile icon. From there, go into settings and find the parental controls in the option.

To make sure that your kids can’t turn them off, set up a PIN that your child won’t be able to guess. Then, you can select whatever type of content that you want to filter out. You can really customize this option to make sure that your kids are only allowed to see what they’re allowed to.

Google Chrome

To do this, sign in to your Gmail account. In the right-hand corner, there should be three dots. If you click on this, you’ll see a Settings option.

From there, there’s a section called People. You can add different people on there and select an image and make a new name for the user.

When you add a new user, you’ll be able to check the box on what people can do when browsing on Chrome. You’ll be able to turn on SafeSearch and also block certain websites, like gambling sites.

From there, you’ll click Add a user, and then a new Chrome window will open. You can then manage that user under the Supervised Users Dashboard.
